แฝดสยาม อิน-จัน
แฝดสยาม อิน-จัน เป็นฝาแฝดที่มีร่างกายท่อนบนติดกัน เกิดที่จังหวัดสมุทรสงคราม เมื่อวันที่ ๑๑ พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. ๒๓๕๔ (ค.ศ. ๑๘๑๑) เรื่องราวของแฝดสยาม อิน-จัน ได้สร้างชื่อเสียงให้กับประเทศไทยไปทั่วโลกในชื่อ “Siamese Twin” เมื่อประมาณปี พ.ศ. ๒๓๗๑ – ๒๓๗๒ (ค.ศ. ๑๘๒๘ – ๑๘๒๙) กัปตันคอฟฟินและฮันเตอร์
ได้เดินทางมาติดต่อการค้าที่แม่กลองและได้พบกับฝาแฝดคู่นี้ จึงขอนำกลับไปที่ประเทศอเมริกาและอังกฤษ เพื่อเปิดการแสดงในที่ต่าง ๆ แฝดสยาม อิน-จัน สามารถใช้ชีวิตอย่างปกติมายาวนานจนถึงอายุ ๖๓ ปี เพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์สถานแด่แฝดสยาม อิน-จัน จึงได้มีการสร้างอนุสรณ์แฝดสยาม อิน-จัน อยู่บริเวณตำบลลาดใหญ่ อำเภอเมืองสมุทรสงคราม ด้านหน้ามีสระน้ำขนาดใหญ่ นอกจากนี้ยังมีอาคารโถงแสดงชีวประวัติของแฝดสยาม อิน-จัน มาจัดแสดงไว้เพื่อให้เป็นที่ศึกษาค้นคว้า เปิดตั้งแต่เวลา ๐๘.๐๐ – ๑๖.๐๐ น. เสาร์-อาทิตย์ ๐๘.๐๐ – ๑๒.๐๐ น.
In – Jun Siamese Twins
Distinctively, In and Jun are known as Siamese twins joined each other at the chest. Having a hometown in Samut Songkhram, the twins were born on 11 May 1811. During 1828-1829, Captain Coffin and Hunter came to Mae Klong District for trading and met with the exotic twins. They thus asked the Siamese twins to go to America and the United Kingdom for shows in public. That is the starting point of their worldwide reputation. The twins lived a normal life until the age of 63 when they passed away.
In recognition of the famous Siamese twins, In – Jun Siamese Twins Memorial was set up in Lat Yai Subdistrict, Muang District, Samut Songkhram Province. The memorial features In – Jun statues standing in the middle of a broad area, a large pond in the foreground and a hall displaying the biography of In and Jun. It is daily open from 08.00 to 16.00 Hrs. on weekdays and from 08.00 to 12.00 Hrs. on weekends.
